Manchester United opened their Europa League campaign with a 1-1 draw against FC Twente at a rain-soaked Old Trafford on Wednesday. Christian Eriksen gave United the lead 10 minutes before halftime, curling a powerful shot into the top corner from inside the box. However, Dutch striker Sam Lammers equalized for Twente in the 68th minute, finishing strongly at the near post past United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
United had chances to reclaim the lead, with Joshua Zirkzee’s shot from a tight angle denied by Twente goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall. In the closing stages, Bruno Fernandes almost found the winner with a curling effort, but Twente’s deep-lying defense held firm to secure a valuable away draw.
