Real Madrid will make a late decision on whether Kylian Mbappe is fit to feature in their upcoming Champions League match against Lille, following the forward’s recovery from a muscle injury. Manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on Tuesday that the 25-year-old, who signed for Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in June, picked up the injury during their recent 3-2 LaLiga win over Deportivo Alaves.
“Mbappe has recovered very well and quickly,” Ancelotti stated during a pre-match press conference. “He trained yesterday and will complete today’s session. We’ll make the decision together, as the last thing we want is to take any risks.”
The French captain experienced muscle overload, but his recovery has been swift, taking less than a week. Ancelotti revealed that Mbappe is eager to play and will be assessed based on his performance in training. If fully fit and there’s no risk of aggravation, he could start the match.
Real Madrid, currently second in LaLiga and three points behind Barcelona after eight matches, face Lille, who are fifth in Ligue 1. Ancelotti acknowledged Lille’s quality, especially their young and skilled players, and emphasized the need for his side to secure points against strong opposition.
On a broader note, Ancelotti also addressed the issue of violence in football, stressing the importance of keeping violent individuals away from the sport. “Violent people don’t belong in football. It doesn’t matter which club they support; they shouldn’t be allowed to disrupt the game,” he said.
